Lochinver Dive Trip 2008

A diving trip to Lochinver with Divetech. The diving was great, as was the company so thanks to everyone for a great weekend!

2008-09-08_Lochinver_0000.jpg On the way up to Lochinver I planned to grab a blip on the way. I did have Ardvreck Castle in mind but I thought I would get there too late for the light. Still, I persisted and it seems to have paid off! blip!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0001.jpg On Friday morning there was little wind and it was dry and bright. Perfect conditions for diving, so we loaded up the boats at the marina as quickly as we could!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0002.jpg A seven-armed starfish on the first dive...
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0003.jpg ...and its much smaller cousin the cushion star. blip!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0006.jpg A wee dragonet hiding on coarse sand. Not seen one of these before!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0007.jpg A burrowing anemone - they have really translucent and delicate tentacles.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0008.jpg A friendly edible crab.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0009.jpg This is a painted top shell on some kelp, viewed from the underside.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0010.jpg A spiny starfish.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0011.jpg Sandra, immediately before an incident where we all nearly drowned laughing on the seabed!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0012.jpg The lesser spotted Alison Fish, also immediately before the near-drowning due to laughter incident.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0014.jpg The jelly-like blob of a sea-squirt. Believe it or not, these things have a primitive spinal column and are thus a closer relative than we might like to think!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0015.jpg Lions Mane Jellyfish. These have a nasty sting but in the clear waters they were easy to avoid and even eerily beautiful.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0016.jpg I've not seen Ling before - identifiable as a member of the cod family by the distinctive barbel under their chin.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0017.jpg Jewel Anemones
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0018.jpg Another seven armed starfish - this one a blip!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0019.jpg Urchin feeding.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0020.jpg Another view of an urchin (spotting a theme yet?)
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0021.jpg Yes, it's yet more urchins!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0022.jpg A prawn, just for a change. Only about an inch long and all but invisible unless they move.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0023.jpg Another edible crab - he's too small for the table though!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0024.jpg Tiny fish were just everywhere in the mild shallow waters.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0025.jpg The outline of a feeding scallop.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0027.jpg Great visibility and bright light make it feel like diving in a garden, even at 20m.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0028.jpg A long-clawed squat lobster threatens me as I approach his hole...
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0029.jpg ...while his less hostile brother gets a close-up!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0031.jpg This is a stalked jellyfish, something else I've not seen before. It's nice to see lots of new types of life!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0032.jpg A dogfish lurks under the kelp...
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0033.jpg Just waiting for me to blip him!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0034.jpg A big purple sunstar. It's not actually purple, but according to my book that's not a requirement...
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0035.jpg Another lurking dogfish.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0036.jpg A female cuckoo wrasse comes out for a look at the strange noisy bubbly thing...
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0037.jpg ...then heads for shelter again. Very wise.
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0038.jpg Brian at 38.5m I was really concentrating on diving since this is pretty deep for me, hence the blurry photo. I must have been narked - it looked fine to me at the time!
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0039.jpg Poor Coral, something I saw by going deep that I've never seen shallower. Shame I didn't manage to snap the huge conger eel....
2008-09-08_Lochinver_0040.jpg I couldn't resist another go at Ardvreck on my way back! blip!
