Christmas 2009

We spent Christmas 2009 at Balbirnie, where we had our wedding in 2005. We thought we'd treat ourself to a bit of luxury after a year when we've been apart so much!

2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0000.jpg Presents arranged in front of the fireplace in our room once we unpacked.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0001.jpg We decided to go for a walk in the snow...
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0004.jpg ...and take some photos in some of the same places as our wedding photos - only a bit colder!

2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0006.jpg It was such fun walking in the snow...
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0007.jpg ... in the lovely low winter sun.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0008.jpg About 5 inches of snow... Cold on the toes.

2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0010.jpg "Stop" I said, intending Ruth to stop for a photo. Unfortunately the snow was slippy and momentum came into play, causing Ruth to fall right over!
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0011.jpg It was even snowing a little.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0013.jpg We're like little kids in the snow.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0014.jpg Kicking snow at each other.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0015.jpg Still kicking snow, or was this when we moved on to the Can-Can?
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0016.jpg Writing in the snow. How dreadfully soppy.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0017.jpg More dusky snowy photographs.

2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0022.jpg You can do handbrake turns round the roundabout in the snow...
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0023.jpg We look colder than for our wedding photo in the same place!
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0024.jpg Afternoon tea back in the warm.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0025.jpg We don't drink tea, but we still gave the cakes a go...

2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0039.jpg My lovely Ruth.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0040.jpg We had a huge cooked breakfast so we had to walk it off a little before Christmas Lunch.

2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0052.jpg ...but there are plenty of places to walk and take pictures!
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0053.jpg The holly looks so beautifully festive with snow on.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0054.jpg Rhododendrons looking rather pretty - don't tell Liz - she spent a long time trying to exterminate these...
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0055.jpg Ruth taking more pictures. There is no shortage of pictures from this walk!
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0056.jpg Snowy path...

2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0077.jpg A boxing day visit to see my parents and brother - it was great to catch up for more gifts, food and chat.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0078.jpg The next day we saw Ruth's parents, and visited the rather funky Barter Books.
2009-12-24_Balbirnie_Christmas_0079.jpg Even here you can't quite escape Christmas decorations. I think I'm all Christmas-ed out now - it's time for a really lazy day or two I think!
