Scapa

A wonderful long weekend diving Scapa Flow with SQSAC.

2013-10-25 Scapa_0004.jpg Our first dive on the gun turrets from the Bayern. These are the ball-bearings that enabled this massive turret to turn - they are about 8 inches across!
2013-10-25 Scapa_0008.jpg A much lighter dive on the Tabarka - everyone scrambles to get inside before the current sweeps us away!

2013-10-25 Scapa_0018.jpg Most of the plates have rusted away, so you can see out between the frames.
2013-10-25 Scapa_0020.jpg It feels a bit like a cathedral - a large space with light coming in from all directions.
2013-10-25 Scapa_0022.jpg More rusty holes.

2013-10-25 Scapa_0032.jpg Day two stared with a deep dive on the Markgraf. It was a lovely dive, and we saw at least five of the seven casemate guns before coming to this in tact porthole in the officers quarters at the stern.

2013-10-25 Scapa_0036.jpg Gavin on the Markgraf's rudders.
2013-10-25 Scapa_0037.jpg Both rudders, just visible in the noise my camera shows in low light!

2013-10-25 Scapa_0053.jpg Three decks down, this is the root of the capstan. The lowest part has teeth engaged by a worm drive which is under the steel deck plate to the right.
