St Abbs & Eyemouth

My first diving trip in the UK after 7 months away, thanks to my friends at divetech and the services of MarineQuest. This was my first time on their new boat Silver Sky - and she seems to be every bit as comfortable as her sister North Star.

2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0002.jpg There are plenty of large wrasse this late in the year. They seem quite curious about us.

2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0004.jpg The wrasse are getting bolder and closer.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0005.jpg If you look up once you are in among the rock, you can see large pollack hanging in the currents.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0006.jpg There are the remains of several wrecks just outside St Abbs harbour. Mostly just piles of metal.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0007.jpg A few plates from a wreck still stand, but they are covered with life and almost indistinguishable from rock.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0008.jpg A velvet swimming grab peers out of his hiding place.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0009.jpg Another plate from a wreck, this one populated on both sides!
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0012.jpg A tiny spiny squat lobster wedged in a crack.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0013.jpg A muvh bigger lobster - dinner anyone?
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0014.jpg Some mating velvet swimming crabs.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0015.jpg I saw the leopard spotted goby, but I didn't notice the two squat lobsters lurking in the rocks until I got the picture on my computer!

2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0017.jpg A little sea-scorpion - obvious enough from this angle..
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0018.jpg ...but well disguised from above!
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0019.jpg A Bloody Henry starfish crawls over rocks encrusted with feeding barnacles.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0020.jpg A large dahlia anemone - 4 inches across but still a dwarf compared with those in Monterey Bay!
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0021.jpg Dahlia Anemone from above.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0022.jpg Two crabs - is one a take away snack for the other, or is this a courtship ritual? I really don't know my crustacean behaviour...
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0023.jpg Starfish.
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0024.jpg A rather well disguised and as yet unidentified crab. Anyone any ideas?
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0025.jpg An even better disguised crab. Can you make it out?
2009-08-16_Diving_St_Abbs_and_Eyemouth_0027.jpg A rather large lobster, which appears to be rather unhappy at me invading it's hole.
